Foam extrusion is used for several applications but one of the main markets for foam in sheet is packaging.  Specifically thermoforming of PS or PP foam to produce cups and trays for food packaging.

  • Foamed cups and trays offer a reduced weight alternative to other packaging formats.

  • Convenience is one of the main drivers for this type of application. 

  • There has been some market share transition from PS based products towards PP based products lately.

  • Good cell size uniformity and thickness are essential for good performance at the thermoforming process.

  • Foamed cups and trays are very good thermal insulators providing great convenience to the fast food industry and the consumer market in general.
