Insulation

Different materials can be and are currently used for insulation purposes, from fiberglass in different presentations to cellulose and foamed polymers including PS.   All of these insulation materials intent to reach the highest thermal resistance in order to avoid the heat transmission from one surface to another. 

What is XPS?:

XPS is the term being used to refer to Extruded Rigid Polystyrene Foam. This product is also well known because the Insulation Boards.  However this application uses other materials such as polyisocyanurate, gypsum boards and PU foam boards among others. The main market for XPS and some of these boards is thermal insulation in housing as other construction fields. However, they can be used for goods protection as well.
Proper insulation of building could reduce substancially the fuel resources (i.e. oil, gas,etc) consumption or electricity consumption for heating.

As a result of the production process these boards involve small closed cell tightly packed that entrap air helping on the insulation effect. This characteristic gives the board water permeability properties as well.

XPS can be found in the big hardware stores and depending on the producer will have a pink, blue or green color among others.
